The latest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that scored 100% in our evaluations thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and boasts an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has an easy mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's an eerily noisy device which could be a problem if you run it in the morning before work or at night as you try to sleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, although it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally capable and look better. This is a two-in-one vacuum that is very efficient however, it's more expensive and make more noise.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, plan an area for cleaning or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to improve performance. The app comes with a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
